What “Church” Really Meant in the New Testament

Explore what the word “church” meant in the New Testament with us. We focus on the Greek word ecclesia and how it was originally a secular term for a city’s ruling body. We look at Jesus’ first use of ecclesia in Matthew 16:18–19 at Caesarea Philippi, discussing Peter’s confession, the “rock” foundation, the gates of Hades, and the authority of the keys to bind and loose according to heaven’s established kingdom. The church is meant to represent and extend God’s kingdom into society
